About the Fellowship

As we seek to explore new approaches to governance, coordination, sustainability, and social institutions in space, we must learn from what is already out there. This Fellowship brings together research on space technology, science, strategic ecosystem analysis, and policy frameworks, translating early ideas into actionable concepts.

Fellows work closely with our core team to advance Open Lunar’s mission—building a cooperative and sustainable lunar future.

Time Commitment & Compensation

  • Commitment: Up to 8 hours per week for 5–8 months (January–August 2026), depending on scope.

  • Compensation: USD $35/hour

  • Location: Flexible and remote (Open Lunar operates globally; meetings often scheduled in Eastern Time Zone)

What Fellows Do

Research & Analysis

  • Investigate emerging ideas for peaceful lunar development

  • Draft background papers, reports, and articles

  • Develop annotated bibliographies and reading lists

  • Support research organization and synthesis

Collaboration

  • Participate in weekly fellowship calls with peers and staff

  • Present findings at research showcases and conferences

  • Engage with diverse stakeholders and incorporate feedback

Deliverables

  • Clear, concise outputs accessible to broad audiences

  • Provocative insights that drive new thinking in lunar governance

  • Final research presented as a published report, white paper, and community showcase
